Privacy policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
This policy explains what the SharePaws app collects, why we collect it, who else handles it, and how long we keep it.
Who we are
SharePaws is run by Sync LC, 13135 Pine Island Dr NE, Sparta, MI 49345, USA. For any question about your data, email info@syncgr.com.
What we collect and why
- Account details. Your name, your email address or phone number, and the account identifier Apple or Google gives us if you sign in with them. We use these to sign you in and to contact you about your account. If you sign in with a phone number, we text you sign-in codes.
- Profile. Your profile photo, your bio, and the city and state you enter.
- What you post. Pet listings, including the pet's city, state and ZIP code, posts, and the photos and videos you upload. The copies we show have their location and camera data removed.
- Messages. The messages and photos you send in chats, so we can deliver them.
- Ratings and reviews you give and receive.
- Reports. Reports you make, and reports other people make about you or your content. A report keeps a copy of what was reported, so our team can review it even if it is changed or deleted.
- Follows, likes and comments.
- Saved pets, blocks and settings. The pets you save, the people you block, the kind of pet you're looking for, and your notification choices.
- Organizations. If you request an organization: its name, contact phone, website and description, and your first and last name. Only our team sees your name.
- Push notification tokens. If you allow notifications, we store a token for your device so we can send them.
- Approximate location. If you allow location, the app rounds your phone's position to about a kilometer before it leaves your phone. We use it to show pets near you and to suggest nearby cities. We don't store that position. When you search for a city, what you type, and your rounded position if location is on, is sent to Google Places to find matches. If you turn on Lost & found alerts, we keep a rough area for you (about 3 miles across, never your street) so we can tell you about lost and found pets nearby. Turning alerts off or deleting your account deletes it. Lost and found reports show on a map as an area about 3 miles across, never a street or an exact spot.
- Anonymous usage counts. We count anonymous app usage steps, such as opening the app and finishing sign-up, with a random ID kept on your phone. It isn't linked to your account.
- Daily limit counters. To stop spam and abuse, we count some actions per day, such as messages, uploads, reports and searches. To count searches from different areas without keeping where you were, we store a scrambled one-way code for each area. These counters delete themselves within 2 days.
What other people can see
Other SharePaws users can see your profile (name, photo, bio, city and state), your listings (city and state, but not the ZIP code), your posts and comments, the reviews people leave you, and who you follow and who follows you.
These stay private: your messages (only the people in the conversation see them), your email address and phone number, your saved pets, the people you block, and your reports. We never tell someone who reported them. Our team sees a message, post or other item when it is reported.
Service providers
These companies handle data for us to run SharePaws:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, storage and sign-in, email, text messages, and automatic checks of photos and videos.
- Google: Sign in with Google (if you use it), city search (Google Places), and push notifications on Android.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple (if you use it) and push notifications on iPhone.
- Expo: app updates. When the app checks for an update, the request goes to Expo's servers.
- RescueGroups.org: the shelter pets shown in the app come from RescueGroups.org. We don't send them anything about you.
We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't track you across other apps or websites.
How long we keep it
- Your account data is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
- Moderation records (the warnings, removals and suspensions on your record, and the number of closed reports against you) are kept for 1 year after you delete your account, then deleted.
- Reports are kept for 1 year after the case is closed. Copies of reported photos and videos are kept for 2 years.
- Listing and post photos and videos our automatic check rejects are never shown. We keep them for about 13 months so our team can review them.
- Backups and logs. Our database backups cover the last 35 days, so deleted data can remain in a backup for up to 35 days. Server logs are kept for 14 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app or by email. See Delete your account for the steps.
When you delete your account, your profile, listings, posts, photos, follows, likes, comments, the reviews about you and the ratings you gave are deleted. Ratings you gave for an organization stay with it. Your messages are deleted too. The other people in your chats keep their side of the conversation, with your name shown as "Former member".
Your choices
You can turn off location and notifications in your phone's settings. Without location, the app shows pets from everywhere instead of near you. You can edit or delete what you've posted at any time.
Children
SharePaws is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
